Valentines day is approaching…hmm. Chocolate. Roses. More chocolate. Luxurious dinner out with your sweetheart. Then more chocolate.
I thought this would be a great opportunity to give you some tips as well as sharing what I love across the web.
There are some amazing heartfelt recipes and posts happening across the cyber spaces this week. I’d love to share a few of them with you.
A couple are totally BRD-approved and some are BRD “fudge it” recipes. No not really fudge, but recipes that just sorta make the grade since you might want to cheat with your sweetheart this week.
Also I’ve got a couple of great pointers if you’re doing a beautiful and romantic dinner out but wanna stay on the plan!
First up is this healthy and loving recipe from A Beautiful Mess. A Beautiful Mess is a lifestyle blog focused on creating a beautiful life. They share simple ways to create an inspired lifestyle (at BRD we love this simple approach). Here’s Easy Tomato Sauce with Spaghetti Squash.
Next, I love this crazy awesome meal prep post from Shutterbean. She says, “Life is better with good food, don’t you agree?” Yes, Tracy we do! And what you’re up to…well, it’s like…what we’re all about at BRD. Duh. Tracy says it best here “If I don’t plan ahead, I get REALLY lazy and waste food/make bad choices when it comes to eating.”
Hello and thank you!
That is why our 2nd rule of BODYReDESIGN is “Keep Meal Planning Simple.” I simply love how she’s laid it out in this post.
Now note: She makes rice and quinoa ahead of time and that isn’t on our plan, however if you have kiddos to feed you may need these healthy carbs to serve them. And once you’ve gone through our initial 5 week program, we do teach you how to eat an 80/20 lifestyle that will include these kinds of items.
Mostly I love that she is straightforward about prepping items and allowing her plan to be spontaneous within what she’s set up. This is simple meal planning. When you have items prepped in your fridge it’s easier to put together a healthy meal in a flash, instead of getting lazy and making bad food choices. Definitely check out this post for a detailed how-to on awesome meal prepping. Go, Tracy!
In Sonnet’s Kitchen posted this delish-looking chocolate strawberry recipe that really is as close to BRD-approved as a chocolate recipe can get. Here’s a couple of things about her that I love, she loves her cats (seriously, see that here), and that totally warms my heart since I love mine (see that here). She’s all about whole foods and holistic living (she’s a holistic health coach) and shares lots of healthy recipes after learning later in life (2006) that she needed to take care of herself. Most of her recipes on the blog are Paleo-friendly…this also follows the lifestyle we teach (no grains) except that we also promote beans as a slow carb energy component and we teach a built in free day as well. This recipe is friendly towards V-day, and although it isn’t ALL BODYReDESIGN-approved, it’s darn close.
You know I love all things Minnesota except the below freezing temps of course, so I thought I’d share with love these next two bloggers: one recipe, and one love story.
The first is from Carpe’ Season, a MN resident — my sweet sis just brought her a meal after the birth of her new girl. Welcome, Elsa! This warm cabbage salad recipe is very close to BRD except for the candied nuts, which include brown sugar. You could easily do a quick change here and just roast the nuts with a little oil sans sugar, and then it’d be totally BODYReDESIGN ready!
Secondly I must share my total food blog crush, Pinch Of Yum. I’m in love with Lindsey and Bjork (also residing in MN). From their pics, to their genuine writing style, to the fact that they’ve started a community for food bloggers that I’ve recently joined, I just love them all around.
Lindsey never fails with her entertaining commentary and beautiful food pics, and though many recipes aren’t BRD-approved, this delicious post is perfect for Valentine’s day. A story of love and food blogging, of course! Click the pic for the romantic details.
I hope you enjoy these gorgeous posts that I’ve loved across the web. And now, as promised, I’d also like to give you a few pointers if you’re enjoying an evening out for V-day.
- Make the 14th your free day (if so disregard pointers 2-4).
- Skip appetizers and order a side salad or a cup of soup to begin your meal (ask them not to bring the bread).
- Order a nice fish and if it comes with potatoes (or other starch) ask to sub out more veggies.
- Skip dessert and take extra kisses from your sweetheart instead.
Have a beautiful heart day and know that Sarah and I LOVE that you’re here with us pursuing a healthy lifestyle. It’s like the perfect V-day gift for us.
Xoxo…to infinity, LVA-
